HIGH TECH ASSOCIATES is an independent manufacturers’ representative company serving the OEM electronic component market. Malcolm Nark formed the company in 1981 after several years of experience in distribution and rep sales in Colorado.
With many years of experience selling semiconductors, batteries, power supplies, sub- systems, cable assemblies, passive electronic components, computer accessories and contract manufacturing, HIGH TECH ASSOCIATES offers a principal a meaningful overview and understanding of the suppliers and customers, their employees and their products.
The California market is about 18 times the size of the Colorado market. The California domestic TAM of about 36% compares to a Colorado TAM of 2%. This 18:1 ratio can be applied to sales dollars and head count.
Taking orders for a $500 million company is different than developing a territory for a $50 million niche player with a specialized product line. Engineering design wins and demand creation for a principal is our specialty.
The normal gestation period for this type of engineering effort can be 12 to 18 months. The risk/reward ratio is high. A backlog of sales in the territory helps defer the cost of the design work. It also demonstrates that the product is salable in the territory. The principal must be able to track sales both domestically and internationally.
The current revenue should support the efforts required to develop the territory. A fee based territory development program is available for new companies.
